Fritz Encourages Gov. Wolf to Expedite Atlantic Sunrise Project
HARRISBURG – To encourage economic growth, Rep. Jonathan Fritz (R-Susquehanna/Wayne) sent a letter to Gov. Tom Wolf urging the administration to complete the review of all permit applications related to the Atlantic Sunrise natural gas pipeline without delay.

The proposed Atlantic Sunrise Pipeline would run through northeast and central Pennsylvania and would connect natural gas-producing regions in northeastern Pennsylvania to markets in the Mid-Atlantic and southeastern states. The pipeline project is proposed to run through Clinton, Columbia, Lancaster, Lebanon, Luzerne, Lycoming, Northumberland, Schuylkill, Susquehanna and Wyoming counties.

In the letter, Fritz stated, “Pennsylvania has a once-in-a-generation opportunity to capitalize on the game-changing natural gas deposits within the Marcellus and Utica shale basins, as well as the state’s optimal location to many of the nation’s large and expanding markets.”

He continued, “Not only are pipelines proven to be the safest and most efficient method to move natural gas to consumers, new energy infrastructure projects are large-scale economic development drivers and job creators. Williams’ Atlantic Sunrise is a nearly $3 billion infrastructure project that has been approved by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). It is projected to support more than 8,000 jobs during construction – adding to the more than 600 full-time Williams employees already living and working in Pennsylvania.”

Four public comment hearings were held earlier this month to solicit feedback about the project. The deadline for written comments was Monday, June 26.
